Halloween Food Art!

Week Six: HALLOWEEN FOOD ART!

MY KITCHEN IS STILL RECOVERING!

Wacky Witches Batter- Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday

To make our Wacky Witch Cakes, we mixed a vanilla cake batter and then separated it. Each Child got a bowl with batter and a different food coloring in it.  After it was thoroughly mixed to reveal the color, they began spooning their color into jumbo cupcake liners or mini cake molds.  We popped them in the oven and began making the topping. For the Monday late class, we mixed icing in the same way and put it in the microwave to make it drippy. Once the cake was out of the oven and cooled, they added each color by using a highly technical drip method!

Our Tuesday girls made cupcakes with a M&M pumpkin topping. We mixed green food coloring into our white icing and then used an icing tip that creates a grass effect for the first layer of our cupcake topping. Next we stuck a toothpick in our marshmallow and iced the marshmallow in orange icing. We put the marshmallow on top of the grass and added orange M&Ms to make a pumpkin and a single green one on top for a leaf

The other classes used chocolate as their topping. On parchment paper we traced trees, eyes, or witches hats using melted chocolate in an icing bag. We used a small round piping top to keep the chocolate from overspreading and losing shape. We put them in the freezer for 5 minutes until they hardened and after the cupcakes were cooled and iced, the chocolate topping was applied.

The Monday Early class made Boo Brownies! Using a square base of a brownie, the boys were all given two JUMBO marshmallows…one to eat…and one to place of top of the brownie. We put a toothpick through the marshmallow to keep it steady and put it on top of the brownie and set that aside. Then, we put white icing was put into snack size zip loc bags. We put the bags in the microwave for 10 seconds and were ready to cover our marshmallows with drippy white icing to make our ghosts. We cut a small corner off the bottom of the bag and just told the boys to squeeze the icing over the marshmallow. We added mini chocolate chips for the eyes to finish off our Boo Brownies.

Things to Remember: While making food that others will eat…YOUR HANDS MUST BE CLEAN! And No licking!

Do not over heat icing for the dripping or the chocolate for the shapes.
